What are email gates?

Email gates let you require readers to enter their email address before viewing certain steps. This is perfect for:

  • Lead generation — Capture contact information from engaged readers
  • Content upgrades — Offer exclusive content in exchange for an email
  • Newsletter growth — Build your subscriber list organically

How it will work

  1. Open your guide in the editor
  2. Click the step where you want the gate
  3. Enable “Require email to continue”
  4. Save your changes

When readers reach that step, they’ll see a form asking for their email. After submitting, they can continue viewing.

Best practices (planned)

Gate after demonstrating value

Don’t gate too early. Readers need to see value before sharing their email:

  • Steps 1-2: Hook them with the problem and promise
  • Steps 3-5: Best place to gate — they’re invested but want more
  • Final steps: Too late — they may abandon

Keep forms simple

Start with email only. Every additional field reduces conversions.

Set clear expectations

Tell readers what they’ll get:

  • “Enter your email to unlock the full guide”
  • “Get the complete walkthrough”
  • “Continue to the advanced steps”

Viewing captured emails (planned)

Once available, you’ll be able to:

  • View all captured emails in your dashboard
  • Export leads as CSV
  • See which guide generated each lead
