Learn how to use the Stepsies editor to create beautiful, interactive step-by-step guides.
The editor interface
The editor uses a split-screen layout with your editing tools on the left and a live preview on the right:
Step 1: Introduction
Tip: Drag images or paste YouTube/Vimeo links to embed videos.
Navigate between steps using the numbered indicators. Edit step titles and content with the rich text editor.
See how your guide looks to viewers in real-time. The preview updates as you make changes.
Step indicators
The numbered circles at the top let you navigate between steps:
- Numbered circles — Click any number to jump directly to that step
- + button — Add a new step at the end
- Arrows button — Open the Manage Steps screen to reorder or delete steps
- Checkmark button — Edit your guide’s finish screen
Editing a step
Each step has two fields:
A short heading that appears in the step indicator and at the top of the step when viewers navigate your guide.
A rich text editor where you write your step’s content. Format text with bold, italic, lists, and links. Drag in images or paste video URLs to embed media.
Saving your work
Changes are not saved automatically. Click the Save button in the top right corner to save your work.
The Save button will become active when you have unsaved changes. If you try to navigate away with unsaved changes, you’ll see a prompt asking if you want to save first.
Navigating between steps
Use the Back and Next buttons at the bottom of the editor to move between steps, or click directly on any step number in the indicator bar.
Managing steps
Click the arrows button in the step indicator bar to open the Manage Steps screen where you can:
- Reorder steps — Drag and drop to change the order
- Delete steps — Remove steps you no longer need
- See all steps — View your entire guide structure at a glance
Make sure you want to remove a step before deleting it. There’s no way to recover deleted content.
Tips for great guides
Each step should cover one concept or action. If a step feels too long, split it into multiple steps.
Write descriptive titles that help readers understand what each step covers at a glance.
Images and videos help illustrate your points and make guides more engaging.
Check the live preview panel to see how your guide looks to viewers as you edit.
